Hospitalists of West Michigan Launches New Website: Website a Healthcare Resource for Hospital Patients and Primary Care Providers

Hospitalists of West Michigan (HOWM) has a unique specialty: caring for hospitalized patients. Their mission is to ensure that their patients have the most positive possible care experience during treatment at Spectrum Health Blodgett and Butterworth Campuses. To do this, HOWM has brought together a world-class team of physicians, physician assistants, nurses, nurse practitioners and other clinicians for whom the area hospitals are their professional homes. In order to educate West Michigan residents and their physicians, HOWM has unveiled a new website: http://www.howm.net.
Khan Nedd, MD, President of HOWM, explains why hospitalists are necessary: “Change is very rapid in the acute care setting. We are experts not only in caring for patients during and after a hospital stay, but also in using the hospital itself. We want patients to derive the full benefit of a stay.” From patient admissions, to care coordination, to communication with specialists and primary care doctors, HOWM ensures that patients are well cared for.
Their original website, however, did not reflect the importance of their complex mission. “In 2008, you have to use every communication means at your disposal,” says Dr. Nedd. When HOWM recognized the need to reinvent their web identity, they engaged Foxbright, a Grand rapids-based communication management firm.
“We set high standards for success, and Foxbright did a wonderful job,” says Dr. Nedd. “Our website needed to reinforce our brand: High quality care, that both improves the treatment process and makes life easier for physicians whose patient are admitted to one of our hospitals.”
HOWM’s new website is built on Foxbright’s content management system (CMS), a software tool that enables anyone in the organization to add, edit or otherwise change web content easily, without affecting the overall look, feel and navigation of the site. “It was important that our website be dynamic,” says Dr. Nedd. HOWM has aggressive plans to expand the healthcare education information on their website, and the Foxbright CMS will make the process fast and simple.
“Foxbright put together a very talented group of writers and designers. The new site was a true team effort,” says Victoria Wolak, Project Coordinator HOWM. “From conceptualization to the finished product, Foxbright was completely supportive. They anticipated anything that could go wrong, and headed problems off before they materialized.”
