Very First Install Free VoIP Telephone and Jabber Service: Launching Indafon.com, Now with Free Minutes to Everyone

Very First Install Free VoIP Telephone and Jabber Service: Launching Indafon.com, Now with Free Minutes to Everyone

Indafon.com | 30 Aug 2008

What is Indafon?

Indafon.com is a web based communication service enhanced with contact management capabilities. Indafon.com users can use it for
- very cheap phone calls
- instant messaging (IM)
- SMS sending
and several other functions. People may sign in at home on their own computer or anywhere else, just like on a free PC in a Hotel room, by typing www.indafon.com in a browser they simply reach their phonebook, credits and can make very cheap phone calls anytime. No installation is required to use Indafon, it's just as simple as using Google.

Indafon users can call one another free of charge, and may buy credits via PayPal to make cheap phone calls into other networks worldwide. All this using just a web browser, without the hassle of having to install any software.

Indafon.com is compatible with MS Windows, Mac OS X, and even Unix based systems depending on Flash availability, and runs on all major browsers.

Indafon users may also chat with each other, or even with users from other jabber based IM systems like Google Talk. We are also working on the integration of MSN, ICQ, AOL/AIM, etc.

How is it developed?

Indafon has been developed by a small group of people over the last two years in the heart of Europe, Budapest, Hungary.

The Hungarian version of the service was launched in its current form four months ago. It has acquired 50.000+ Hungarian users by now and Indafon.com is working on the first partnership program with one of the largest webmail providers in the country. Indafon.com has made every effort to lend contacts a friendly appearance and keep the contact list, instant messaging and, of course, phone calls very easy to use. Together with Indafon the mail partner will keep all the features on its own website, making possbile to all of its users to have real-time communication features like Gmail, but also adding phone calls with nearly no investment.

Wanted

Indafon.com would like more and more people to get to know and test together Indafon. Therefore, in the first weeks a free minutes campaign has been launched. Everyone visiting the site may issue a western-movie style arrest warrant on their friends. People can make a personalized Wanted poster by uploading a photo and send it to the targeted e-mail address.

If the friend gives himself/herself up:
- they will become friends in Indafon, meaning they can see each other's status and can start a chat with one another or call each other for free,
- on the other hand, they both receive free credits, which can be used to make phone calls in directions advertised on the Wanted page, within a month.

Indafon.com's goals

Besides developing indafon.com Indafon intends to connect itself with other services, even on white label terms in the future. The technology behind Indafon can flexibly be adjusted to complement webmail, social networking, and dating solutions, or any other online content. The technology behind Indafon can be used to enhance such websites with chat or telephony functions, or a combination of these in various ways, using the given service provider's own user base, being tailored to their needs in shape and size, as well as graphical appearance. The functions can be built into smaller user interfaces or, similarly to indafon.com, can appear as full-screen applications.

Indafon.com would like to warmly recommend its services to webmail service providers who have not yet had their own integrated instant messaging solution or would like to provide web based telephony to their users – built right into their own service environment.

Indafon Technology

At the core of Indafon there are two proprietary clusterable server implementations written in C/C++:
- a flash media server, connected to other telephone networks through a softswitch
- and a clusterable application server with Jabber protocol, as well as IM, and contact management support. We have written our own application server to be able to provide a highly manageable and scalable server working in cluster.

Following registration, each Indafon user will have a Jabber ID after the pattern of nick@indafon.com, which will also be their SIP identifier. This JID can be used in any jabber system with the password set on the website. (SIP password will be released and as planned match the jabber password after the beta phase.)

Indafon phone calls to other networks are also possible using your already existing SIP subscriptions – such as Vonage, VoIP Cheap, etc. – (these can be configured on the settings panel), but buying Indafon credits through PayPal is also a matter of seconds.

Indafon is also a jabber based IM service, compatible with all similar systems, like Google Talk. During the test period, we will step-by-step enable the gateways to other services, like MSN, AOL/AIM, ICQ as well. The Indafon jabber ID and password can be used in other web based or desktop jabber clients.
