ePCII: Embedded PC Technology as Industrial PC or Data Logger
BMC Messsysteme GmbH | 06 Aug 2008
It's like in a movie: A second version to be successful must feature something new and better without loosing sight of its basic characteristics. BMC Messsysteme GmbH (bmcm) has put great emphasis on this aspect when developing the next generation ePCII as industrial PC or data logger.
With the integration of an LX800 CPU in ETX standard (Embedded Technology eXtended) the processor performance of the new devices has been doubled (500MHz). At the same time the wattage is constantly low (app. 10W).
Besides that, the extremely compact design could be kept: the robust aluminum housing with 110mm in width and height and 210mm length can easily be placed in tight space.
Also new is the extended temperature range from -25°C to +85°C (-13°F to 158°F), an important aspect frequently disregarded by other manufacturers and often causing problems. Especially in industrial environment and vehicle tests extreme temperatures can be reached fast. If even those are exceeded, a continuous temperature control protects the devices by shutting them down.
The ePCII systems are available as industrial PC ePCII-QUAD, a modularly structured, compact embedded PC, or as a data logger ePCII-LOG (--> http://www.bmcm.de/us/pr-epcii-log.html) for applications in data acquisition. The possibility to transmit data via CAN makes them especially interesting to the automotive sector. The CAN interface (4x CAN) is already integrated in the ePCII-LOG, the ePCII-QUAD can be equipped with a relevant PC/104 interface card.
Using CompactFlash cards as data carrier with high memory depth (max. 2GB) is a clear advantage. With this replaceable storage medium a consistent configuration and measuring data can easily be copied to other systems.
The devices feature many interfaces (z. B. VGA, USB, PS2, LAN, RS232) to provide for a wide range of applications.
A galvanically isolated power supply unit guarantees high interference resistance and reliability.
The data logger ePCII-LOG is additionally equipped with a 16-bit PC/104 data acquisition card so that the recorded signals of the 16 analog inputs and the CAN data are processed synchronously in time. The sampling rate of 1kHz per channel makes it to a very fast device in its category.
In addition, with 2 analog outputs and 32 digital channels the ePCII-LOG is particularly suitable for control tasks.
Programming of the data logger is done via the integrated operating software.
The integrated components, such as the intelligent LCD display and the carrier board, are available as single parts. Besides that, bmcm offers various PC accessories and PC/104 cards to individually equip the ePCII devices.
PC technology and industrial data acquisition at an excellent price-performance ratio: BMC Messsysteme GmbH has long made this its motto and impressively proves this with the ePCII series. For further information, visit the bmcm website.

BMC Messsysteme GmbH was founded in 1994 as an independent corporation with headquarters in Maisach, app. 30 km west of Munich. bmcm is one of the only German companies that completely develops and produces in Germany. The products of data acquisition and PC technology from BMC Messysteme GmbH stand for quality "made in Germany". A high value is set on keeping an excellent price/performance ratio. Since establishing a direct distribution in July 2006, customers have been able to profit from the advantage of direct contact to the manufacturer.
BMC Messsysteme GmbH serves the following business areas:
* Measuring components and PC measurement technology *
This comprises a wide range of connection systems, measuring amplifiers, data acquisition cards (internal and external), "ready-for-use" data acquisition systems, data loggers and the appropriate software for visualization, recording and analysis.
* PC technology *
This area includes embedded PCs developed as complete solutions as well as single PC components often used in the automotive field.
* D2M (Design to Manufacturing) and OEM products *
BMC Messsysteme GmbH develops and produces electronic components according to customer specifications.
You will receive high-quality products manufactured already since the beginning of 2006 according to the RoHS directive. Of course, the corresponding documentation and CE test is always included.
A German documentation is obligatory for them, as well as an English description to be available to their international customers.
